Movies...Yes Man!!!

Merry Xmas everyone!!
This is what I watched for christmas... missing the first little part of it n again to make things worst they censored here n there.. Jim Carrey personaly claim that he will oonly be paid based on the response of the boxoffice.

All and all a nice movie tho..
It's about Mr. No man, Carl Allen (Jim Carrey) who is super closed up about life, opportunities and he is being labeled as no-life banker.

His 'awakening' comes when he hit the valley of his life when all his friends deserted him and his girlfriend dump him and he start to realized that he does not have a life! That is when he signup for the "YES" seminar (very Tony Robbins flavour), and the speaker "psycho"ed him to start making a 'secret agreement' to say "YES" to every opportunity that comes by to him.

And YES he did! He started doing crazy things like giving $$ to homeless, learn guitar, taking flying lessons and even a persian matchmaking! Until he hit a point realizing that one should not just say YES to everything but to be judgemental and only say it when it's from the heart. That's when he won his true love back.

Nice movie about life, but a vague ending. Many of us are truly blinded by the things around our life..so this movie is a good eye opener to welcome great things into our life. So from now on, tell year 2009 "YES!" :p

My world, My Life n My way

Just to get it off my chest once again, I am back in the valley of my life again.

Am having quite a quite a roller coaster ride this year in my life..quite an amazing experience considered have all the good, the bad n the ugly all in one year. I may seem like I ask for it as a result of AC Syndrome (Attention Craving Sydrome). But every time I fall down to this valley again I learn new things, new skills, new wisdom just to move me ahead. If today the almighty God if I may comes to me to trade this experience off? Guess I won't..

What else can there be more?

Now I just want to make it clear.
To all you backstabbers out there, just bring it! To all you bad lucks out there, just bring it!
This door is always open, just go ahead and make my day! Cos for all that you done I just don't give a damn thing about it. Afterall what else can you do? Give me a meteor shower? Guess you don't last! Cos you can't touch me!

Last but not least, To all the greatness, abundance, good luck and happiness in life you are even more than welcome to shower me with all your blessings. I pray to God, not to help me through this. Instead seek me out, give me the wisdom and strength and witness me through this matter.

After all Tony Robbins said it best, "Tough time don't last, Tough people do!"

BTW, AC Syndrome is curable.
That's blessing.. :p

Movie review----> Catacomb.

What must I say about this movie?
A girl (Victoria) flying to Paris visiting her sister, who brings her to a underground clubbing place in Paris' famous Catacomb. And her sister Carolyn (by Pink) gives her one heck of a "orientation". Fullstops!!

Why? cuz that's the story in 2 line.. I can't afford to say another 1 line or 2.. then comes the spoiler.

Verdict?
Visual, sounds, cast are great. They know their stuff inside out. Only good part is a good lesson learned, I can't say or I'll spoil the fun.

BUT!!!! Having to know the story is going to be like this which is kinda expected. Like Carolyn said "It's going to be a life changing experience for you!". Well it did for Victoria ( Shannyn Sossamon) she made a major break tru back then. Take a good note about what she meant by "All the people I know there died in 48 hrs, including my sister."

As the usual I am always unpleased about the censorship thingy as per mentioned in the Midnight meat train review. So it happens again lo and half the time they still cant manage to censor the almighty "F" word. That's consider biasa la overhere (dont ISA me ar!)

But what i really upset is that this movie is released only sometime this month while in the other places it's already becoming DVD n VHS!!! Meaning what? They've release this in October, 2007!!! What is the matter here?! Niamah....potong stim kau kau.

Rating 5/10

Lost n Found?

Millions n Thousands of apologies for not being active in posting. As i just started working in my new company and i side track my direction a bit. And now finally realize how laid-back my blog is, *slap. Stay tuned, will post in more stuff later..

My Ipoh/ Cameron Highland Trip Part 2

Part 2 of the journey, after searching for the legendary Ang ku kueh mould it' is time to visit around Ipoh town and occasionally looking for food.

First stop, Tokong Nam Thean Tong which is very near to the famous fruit stall in Ipoh for selling Pamelo and other local food stuff. I am not very good at describing temples and I didn't took any pictures of the interior of the temple (Respect the Gods n Deities mah..)

Entrance to Nam Thean Tong

This is Xian Ling Yan (if not mistaken), just right next to Nam Thean Tong.
They worship Guan Yin as the main Deity in that temple.

The old man under the moon and his product (of cos la my parents!).
It is said that this is the chinese deity in charge of love and matchmaking.
His role is almost equivalent to western's Cupid.

It's dinner time. How can you miss Ipoh's Bean sprout chicken for dinner? Forget about Lou Wong and Onn Kee (which is the local giant famous for this dish, very tourist flavoured). So in search of the best bean sprout chicken, we cruise around Ipoh and end up at this stall which to me known as Ipoh's best kept secret.

Sap Ng Low or translated as "Fifteen Tower" is the stall, known mostly to the locals only.
Ultra packed during the weekend.

And initially when someone told me bean sprout chicken I always have the idea of bean sprout cooked with chicken or vice versa whatever kind of derivative I can think of. Who knows it is bean sprout & chicken. One thing special is their bean sprout is short and fat.

After the introducing the wife, now the husband aka the chicken. The chicken is also specialy 'treated' in a way that after it was cooked they actually need to soak it in cold water and then hot water to ensure the tenderness of the chicken. Yummy!

Of cos best with the local Ipoh Hor Funn!

Now the comparison of Fifteen Tower and the other 2

Fifteen Tower:
  • Cheap and nice. (at least RM 10~20 cheaper depend on how many ppl going)
  • They don't have that commercial taste.
  • You can opt for soupy Hor Funn or Dried (Kolo) ones.
  • They don't serve meat ball and fishball.
  • And they don't serve rice.
  • Can't choose particular parts of the chicken you desired (ie I only eat chicken breast)
  • Only open at night (correct me if I am wrong cos I only been there twice all in the evening)
  • A bit out of the way if you are not familiar with Ipoh town

Onn Kee & Lou Wong:

  • Been there for centuries. (I believe Fifteen Tower also old time player)
  • Commercial taste.
  • Serves fishball and also meatball.
  • Here you can opt for rice, but I am not sure if they serve dry (kolo) hor fun.
  • Yes you have to pay extra...especially Lou Wong.
  • Open during daytime, used to be only Onn Kee, now due to competition, Lou wong started too!
  • Both located in the central part of Ipoh, you simply can't miss it!
Now the choice is yours!

My Ipoh/ Cameron Highland Trip Part 1

I spent the whole Merdeka weekend over in Ipoh and Cameron Highland. It's not like I've never been to Ipoh, but well I find this time the experience unique since I'm traveling with my parents and also driving up all the way to Cameron Highland all by myself being a tour guide and also a driver.

We left Klang valley approximately 9:30 am, nice and leisure, free and easily reaching Ipoh town around 12. simply because we make a few stops for toilet breaks.

The next thing upon arrival is definately food, which is settled in Sun Tuck Kee, one of the famous place for fried hor fun. Check out the lunch menu!!

The main dish of the day- Wat Tan Hor

This is my fav, Tai Luk Meen (Thick fried noodle), abit salty tho this time.

And a good side dish that goes with it.
Cuttlefish and their special sauce!

This is a view of Ipoh old town (I forgot the name of the street :p)

For the first time in my life I see the puppet lion being made for lion dance. It is almost consider a 'lost art' as not many chinese knows how to do it and also it's taboos and all.

After settling in the hotel, We began a quest in search of "The Lost mould of the Ang ku Kueh".

This lovely tasty local pastry is called "Ang Ku Kueh". Well this illustration is obviously not my mum's product. Her's is way more cute, way more chill-out, she doesn't add anything additive or coloring all is natural ingredient. For orders you can contact me at kuanlin81@gmail.com, my mum's pastry is only available in Kuching!

My mum claimed that she's bought this mould somewhere in Ipoh town even I was here for the past few trips I can't seem to find it.

"Oh... The mould is like that one..."

There's a difference in plastic mould and wooden mould. If you're making ang ku kueh for the fun of it or just once in a blue moon party with friends use the plastic ones will do fine. Unless you're like my mum who does it for selling you need a heavy duty ones.
See how many we got?

The story continues.....

The Lion's New Crib

I think this title is responsible for me not being active blogging for the past few days over the weekend. I've been busy looking for houses/room to move in as my contract with the old owner is out. And then spend the next few days moving things and packing/unpacking. Well as a result of that I think i lost a few extra pound and get some shape on my arms ;)

After searching round n round PJ area, It finally came to my attention that there's a little house in Chow Yang SS2 having this "room to let" ad outside the fence, i call the owner up and straight away see the room. It was really a love at first sight.

Lovely little room (medium sized) super cooling and not facing main road!!! Yippee!!!
Now check my crib!

Entrance view

That's where the lion sleeps tonight~ Awhimbowep~

And this is where this blog is being posted.

Comparisons of my 2 places in PJ

Old one: @ 21/1, Seapark

Pros
  • Near to a lot of nice food
  • Near to bank
  • Near to LRT
  • Nearer to Sec 14 side can go to Digital Mall
  • Rental is RM350 for a big room
  • Has ceiling fan

Cons:
  • Noisy since the house is sitting at Jalan 21/1 of Seapark one of the busiest road in Seapark connecting to the LRT and most PJ roads
  • Landlord staying under the same roof, guess it's a self explainable thing
  • Competing queue ups for toilet at wrong timing with house mates Argghh!!! Especially nature callS!!!
  • Hot did I mention hot?!
  • Sometime landlord check my room as if I trade fire-arms (doh!)
  • What else you want?!

New place @ SS2, Chow Yang

Pros

  • Quiet, Peaceful. I get birds chipping in the morning it's like having mother nature saying blessings n prayers for you. How do you like to start a day like that?
  • Near to a Park, Can exercise and cut down some weight (hopefully)
  • Less ppl staying only me and the other guy, he's staying in the master room so that means i get the outside toilet for my own!
  • Near to all major roads! If you stay in PJ SS2 you get what I mean, near to Sunway, 1 U area, Ikea area and also not that bad going to KL also.
  • Near to good food also.g
  • This place is also cooling not hot.
  • Rental is RM330!! RM20 cheaper!!!

Cons
  • Car still have to park outside.
  • No Ceiling Fan
  • Still can't think of anything so far so good!
I still have lots of things to unpack but daddy says don't open up those book boxes first, chinese la that's why..so have to wait lo meanwhile... I really like this new place, good vibe!

Learning from the Kamasutra Guru??

Last Thursday I went to an Indian banana leave restaurant in Sec 11 PJ. Food was not bad for the amount that I paid. And As soon as I'm done with the meal. I found myself in a Kamasutra classroom taught my 2 fly guru!!

Check out the pix!!
*Disclaimer! I must admit my phone tho it's a 2 megapixel but the quality of the pix is a bit out I hope for donations in order to shoot better pix :p*

Lesson one 'Twin Elephant against the wall"

Ok Sally let's try the raising position, this time raise your legs!!

Oh Mike you so good!!

Movie Review---> You Don't Mess with the Zohan

***Community service message!! Please be careful when drinking while watching this movie! Choking hazard might occur in several scenes. Also please massage your cheek and jaws area after the movie.****

Well well our all time favourite Adam Sandler is back! This time around he's a big time Israeli commando, Zohan Dvir who wants out, fake his own death in Israel just to come to America to become a Hair stylist (funny enough the intention).

That's where his new journey started. However his outlook is somewhat like an immigrant from the middle east so he 'repackage' himself into a Austrialian-Tibetan mix with a name called "Scrappy-Coco" (just go n see how he get this name).

After heaps of rejection (since he has no experience, only cut his own hair and a few dogs), he in the end landed in a Palestinian barber shop which ultimately leads him and his gang to unfold a deep conspiracy of the local developers are trying to move them away to build their own new building.

Look at the launch date and the local launch date.
This is not fair!!

PheewW! Nearly spilled everything out for you all....

What can you expect from this movie?

  • Tonnes of laughter, provided you are well-versed in their background ie, terrorist, arabs, Israel/Palestine conflict, hebrew.... even some of the jokes I don't get it. Like "shamutta habibi (what does it mean??)...I saw tonnes of middle east moviegoers having such a good laugh while i sit there looking like an idiot. But all and all a good laugh is guaranteed.

  • That there's a lot of different different type of "middle east people" from Israelis, Palestinian, Iranian, so on.. and we are so ignorant about it by labeling them terrorist? Actually they are not..so understand and respect them lo....

  • Excessive usage of Hummus and the Israeli laxative effect soft drink 'Fizzy Bubblech' for dunno what reason...

  • Mariah Carey, Even she has a role as herself in there.

  • Also Disco!!!

Have fun, sit back and don't forget to massage your jaws after the movie.

Over and out!

Becoming Postman of God

This is truly a gift from Heaven to Pei Sun (and I'm proud to deliver it!) who is able to celebrate her son's 7th birthday followed by a movie outing in Cineleisure area.

First of all Let me introduced our Truly remarkable woman, Ms Lee Pei Sun. At her young time (well now still young la late 20's only!) she used to be a 'truly radiant bride' living almost perfect life with her husband and kid with a job and a promising future. It is only after a car accident that she involved seeding the very seed of her Spinocerebellar Ataxia disease which only outbreak after the birth of her second son, causing her body function to deteriorate as days goes by.

Now living in Beautiful Gate Foundation, PJ Center, She learned soft skills to cope up with her life and also the center help her and others like her to look for jobs/career so that they are financially self sufficient (I don't think so~!). The only reason now for Pei Sun to continue live on is her 2 kids. Despite her limited physically ability, she wants to give both her kids a complete childhood and spend as many time as possible with them. In fact due to her strong will and determination, her condition maintains its state instead of further deteriorating.

Last Friday, her eldest son is turning 7 years old. So being a friend (and our duty roster gang for Pei Sun), we bring their whole family out for a movie outing/shopping!!

We had lunch in KFC at Seapark(tho I didn't eat the chicken there :p), we celebrated his eldest son Pao Pao's birthday there. So there's where all the cake cutting and candle blowing being taken place.

The birthday boy and his mum Pei Sun

Happy Birthday to you!!

I wish my mummy can get well and dance off the wheel chair one day!

This is really a priceless picture. The Gem of the day.

After the cake cutting we proceed straight away to Cineleisure for Wall-E. Tho we missed quite a bit on the front part but Pei Sun and her kids definitely enjoyed the show as much as we do.

Posing with Sullivan n Mike!

Hey Sully! There are new monsters in town! Roar!!!

Wall-E "Aww... Isn't that a lovely family Eva?"
Eve "Hehe you sure know how to make me smile :)"

Da Lion roaming in for photo!

Queuing up to enter smalland in Ikea.

Picture of the day, taken in front of Cineleisure connecting to the Curve.

After the movie, we went to a few places, flea market, Ikea, the Curve and also Ikano power center to do some shopping.

But I'm not happy one thing is Cathay Cinema don't give discount to the disable and they have to pay full adult rate! I paid for 3 adult and 2 kids ticket, it's not about the money but really I think it's a bit unfair having disabled if they say to come all the way to pay for a full adult fare!

Pretty drenched after a whole day of event. But the fulfillment within it's cooler than just donating 1 million dollar to the center or some version like that. I'm so proud to be able to bring Pei Sun and her 2 kids to cinema with the help of my friend Josephine. This is a total breaktru for me comparing to previously bringing them to the zoo and just shopping in Ikea. Imagine carrying Pei Sun down the aisle and to put her to a seat to watch cinema and piggy-back her down to proceed to shopping! It was quite a blessing also that Pei Sun's 2 kids Pao Pao and Kang Kang are quite obedience and cooperative so the whole day journey is pretty fun and juiced!

Isn't that fun?

How can you help?

  1. Donations to Beautiful Gate Foundation. Doesn't have to be just in cash form (well of cos cash would be nice as cash is king!), donations can also be of your old newspapers or any junk that you think you need to throw away, just give it to them! They'll sell these junks/recycle and take the $$ for their funding!

  2. Join us in our weekly roster sending Pei Sun home to see her kids weekly. Now we need more people on this, especially during events of one of her son's birthday or outing to zoo and cinema. As this will enhance the fun and also we can spread out the jobs at least all of us are not so tired.

Special Thanks goes to: Brother Horng Han who 'assigned' this task to me, Aunty Han for providing the lunch and sending Pei Sun and Josephine for being the nanny cum photographer of the day :p.

God Bless!

Movie Review ------> Wall E!!!!

Hohoho! Finally my turn to review this movie!
Initially not knowing anything I was in fact confused Wall E for Short Circuit's Johnny 5!
And it's because of writing this review then I did some research and found out that they are different! Way light years different.

Because we were late so we kinda missed like 25 mins of the show. But still manage to pick up along the way.

The story line is pretty simple, It is said that 2110 that Earth was too toxic for humans to stay on so they leave earth and stayed in a space ship, Axiom (a'la Noah's Ark concept) and one Wall E unit (our main "unlikely" hero) is left behind. It's only when year 2815, almost seven hundred years later, Axiom send a probe robot Eve to earth to look for living form and Wall E's advanture begin by following Eve back to Axiom. Which leads to tonnes of disasters and also crowned our unlikely hero become the hero that saves the day!

Phew!!! I 'nearly' review everything didn't I? Go watch yourself la!!
I can only say 4 words, cute, amazing, education and brilliant! After all this movie is really really suitable to bring kids to watch along (I bring 2 :p) and to start them young to love mother earth or we'll simply need robots like Wall-E to clean up the mess.

Notably, you can see how human has 'evolved' after technology takes over alots of daily applications.

To write this little review, I have to do some homework (as usual). I was a bit upset to come to know that the release date cos in the States and Canada, they'd release this movie as early as end of June 08!! While we have to wait for another 1.5 months? Hello??? Explanation please?? Potong stim kau kau!

But ok lah since it's out, so go n watch lo. And think deeply about giving earth a second chance ;)
